Throughout our lives, we experience moments that alert our body to stress. This stress can accumulate, sometimes locking us in a flight, fight, or freeze state. SE helps release this trauma that is stored in the body. When SE is used in therapy, clients are gently guided to process bodily sensations and suppressed emotions. SE can help people understand how stress and body responses are connected, leading to the processing of traumatic experiences.

Our past and worries about the future keep can keep us out of the present moment. This impacts our ability to be with others in life. Mindfulness brings our attention to the present without judgement. It helps us see more clearly the ways we might be stuck in unhelpful patterns.

Using both mindfulness and acceptance strategies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aims to increase psychological flexibility. The goal is to notice what is happening in the moment, to feel what emotions arise, and to respond in a way that furthers your own values. ACT acknowledges the role that language, inner fears, and societal perceptions play into our understanding of past, present, and future events. When we come to process these events, accept the present moment, and commit to living differently, we move toward healing.
